Vincent Pardieu
- Vincent Pardieu is a Consultant Field Gemologist at “VP Consulting SPC”, a writer and a documentary producer. I have studied analytical chemistry in Bordeaux and UK and then business in Toulouse (France). He became after his studies a tour leader specialized in Asia and Europe for 5 years. I have studied gemology at GGA in Myanmar in 2000 and at GIA in Thailand in 2001.
For the past 20 years, he traveled to gem mining areas around the world for gemological research purposes. With 149 field expeditions to Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and China), Africa (Madagascar, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia), America (Greenland, Brazil, Colombia) and Australia, probably nobody has ever visited as many colored stones mines around the world.
He witnessed first-hand the complex realities associated with producing colored gemstones nowadays and he specialized in the origin determination of colored gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and spinels.
From 2002 to 2017 he worked first as:
– Gemstones buyer in Myanmar for Henry Ho, a Thai gem merchant, and entrepreneur (2002 to 2004).
– Director for the AIGS Lab in Bangkok (2004-2006) where he started a field gemology program.
– Gemologist at the Gübelin Gem Lab in Switzerland (specialized in origin determination of gemstones)
– Senior Manager, Field Gemology at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) laboratory in Bangkok (2008 to 2017) where he built for GIA what is probably the best reference sample collection for rubies, sapphires, and emeralds.
Since Jan 2017 he created his own consultancy company: “VP Consulting”. He has collaborated with the “Bahrain Institute for Pearls & Gemstones (DANAT)” (2017 – 2019) to build their colored stone reference collection and is now also helping “Greenland Ruby” since May 2017 for their ruby mining project in Aappaluttoq (Greenland).
He is now traveling to gemstones producing areas to build an independent colored gemstone reference collection to become available for gemological laboratories or universities all around the world for data collection and research.
He is internationally renowned for his dedication to all things related to gemology and conservation, he gave numerous talks all around the world and has published prolifically on all aspects of the subject in a host of different hard as well as web-based publications, the main ones of which can be found on “ResearchGate”.
He produced 30 short field gemology documentaries available on his YouTube account and on GIA or DANAT websites.
His personal website: www.fieldgemology.org was one of the most popular gemological websites when it was online. Finally, he is also very active on social media: Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
