Edward Johnson

Edward’s career has focused on knowledge, ethics, and integrity within the gem and jewelry industry, with a background working with high-profile, non-profit organizations.

Based in London since 2002, he established his own consultancy in January 2020 delivering projects to advance responsible practices and address ESG issues (Environmental, Social & Corporate Governance) in the gem and jewelry supply chain.

Most recently he was Business Development Director with the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Prior to that, he worked with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) for 18 years, first in Hong Kong and then establishing GIA’s presence in the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2017. His career started as a trade journalist for the industry in Asia in 1992, and he has also acted as a Gemmology Consultant to the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Lab and as an independent jewelry appraiser.

Edward is a Graduate Gemologist from GIA and a member of both the Gemmological Association of Hong Kong and the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.
